Dreamqueen Immersive is proud to announce their new site-specific chamber piece, Mary Shelley Meets a Monster, an intimate foray into a stormy June in 1816, when eighteen‐year‐old Mary Shelley and four companions decamped to Villa Diodati on Lake Geneva to invent a new genre of literature.
It begins simply enough as an evening spent rained in with some of the greatest creative minds in history, but soon becomes a story about love, sex, creative ambition, and power dynamics. Mary finds herself surrounded on all sides by her peacocking lover Percy Bysshe Shelley, the notorious Lord Byron, her secretive stepsister Claire Clairmont, the oft-forgotten and always lovelorn Dr. Polidori, Lord Byron’s household staff, and the jealousies and desires among them. Mary must navigate their expectations and the complicated feelings that they evoke, all while trying to balance keeping her reputation intact, indulging in the mischief that might ruin it, and finishing the story that will become Frankenstein.
